Jillian D Gibbs, owner of Voix Jai, an Advertising Agency, graced us with an insightful interview about being an entrepreneur and her triumphs and challenges thus far.

How long have you been in business?
I have been in the Media/Broadcasting industry for 20yrs as a Radio Personality and Voice Over talent.
What was the motivation for you to become an entrepreneur?
Both of my parents have been business owners for years. It’s all I know…. the pursuit of business, it’s in my blood.
What is the focus of your business?
Initially it started as a Voice over company solely, but as I continued to work with and learn the business of Advertising. I got bit by the bug and fell in love with the process creating advertising projects.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Constant pace from studios to studios and heavily involved creative meetings with clients and co-creatives.
To date, what has been your greatest accomplishment in terms of your company?
Putting together an entire advertising campaign, for a large company.
What are your future plans for your business?
Continuously growing and working with other entrepreneurs to promote their brands from the best voice, and aesthetics that represent them best.
Who are some of the people that you admire and why?
My mother and Grandmother…both small business owners in their past, but they were the epitome of strength, drive and commitment to their craft and giving only the greatest.

What are your hobbies, meaning what do you do to destress?
Honestly I do one of two things…watch documentaries on Netflix, or dive into music. Music is life
If you had a chance to do it all over would you choose the same path?
Yes I would choose this path, it just would have been earlier…fear kept me back.
What are your thoughts on the Small Business landscape in Trinidad?
There are so many talented persons in our country. However, we need to pool together and equally support each other. I also think it is vital for SMEs to research in-depth Business practices, business registration and business economics.

What advice would you give to people considering getting into your line of business, specifically in Trinidad?
